The U.S. National Debt Hits 10 Trillion Dollars

As of October 1, 2008 the United States National Debt hit 10 Trillion Dollars. For perspective that's 72.2 % of the 2007 gdp (the us gdp for 2007 was 13.84 trillion).

Does anyone care or know what the effects of this will be?

Neither party or presidential candidate is talking about how much the debt can and is crippling the government and the dollar. You can't even rationally entertain spending more money with a debt that size and that goes for both Obama and McCain.

Nor are they talking about how a loose monetary policy is the primary factor in the financial meltdown. And the media currently is obsessed with pushing the public into accepting a 700 billion dollar bailout of Wall Street.

The real looming crisis is a run on the dollar and government insolvency.
